For anyone wanting something to do with their binoculars until Halley returns, you might try hunting up the minor planet 1 Ceres. It is about as easy to find as asteroids get. You will need both a set of binoculars and the finder chart in the February 1986 issue of SKY AND TELESCOPE, page 177. I found the little rockball last night about 9PM EST with 7x50's from my back yard. My visual magnitude was limited to 4.2 at the time. I'm glad it is in Leo Minor and not Sagittarius.
