I have an 83 GTS with the same reverse grinding and difficult 2-1 downshift. My neighbor has an almost identical car with the same behavior. I think it's normal for an older Celica. If this is the only major problem you've had with yours you can count yourself lucky. I wish that I could say that. Lane Anderson P.S. - Try double clutching on your downshift. It takes a load off of the synchronizers. You may want to use it for other downshifts, partic- ularly when the transmission is cold. I often have to use it to upshift when its REAL cold.
