Let's start a discussion on wheels. I just got a Performance catalog and I am noticing that tubulars (sew ups) are relegated to a smaller section in the catalog. I recently switched to using Panaracer kevlars (c) on the ol' Arc en Ciel's. Wow! A big difference over the clinchers ...wired-on's...). However, there are now a lot of sub 200 gram tires on the market. you can't get less than a 400 gram rim for these, but you don't want much less than that riding on our eroding infrastructure here in the U.S.A. My Arc en Ciels have taken some lumps (they're about 350 g). How good are the new tires? Do they mount okay (I have tried mounting the foldable tires on some Weinmann rims with no success. I needed the wire bead)? One review of the Specialized rim found a problem with uneveness where the rim was joined. This is an expensive rim...does its cost justify dumping tubulars for a wired on? /Charlie Crabb crabb%katie.dec@decwrl.ARPA
