My experience in commuting in large cities (Houston, Phoenix, and Ks. City), though, has reinforced this decision. I found that drivers tend to show a greater respect for a bicyclist wearing a helmet than one not. There seems to be a mentality that w/o a helmet, I am playing, whereas, with a helmet I must be someone serious. *Breaking Away* seems to have strenghtened this.
