Summary: Book Lists: Why not?

I haven't followed net.books for long and have missed the salient 
arguments re the book list controversy.  I don't understand the problem.
It seems that if you like book lists, read 'em; if you don't, don't.

If someone (somemany?) would care to post a [very] brief summary of 
both views, I'd appreciate it.  Or better, just send me mail to spare 
everyone the tedious replay.  Thanx (?).
