Yes, I did this once a few years ago. A mail order arrived with card number but no expiration date. I called the authorization center, explained the situation, and was put on hold for half a minute, at the end of which they gave me an authorization number (charged approved). On the other hand, it's a lot easier to challenge a credit card charge when the merchant doesn't have a signature on the sales slip, as was the case for all my business.
