My advice is stay away from belt drive food processors. They're the ones with the motor in a little "tower", beside the bowl, like this: motor bowl \ \ -------- | | | | ---- | | | | | | | | | _|______|_|_______| ___________________ The problem is that after a while the belt wears out and must be replaced. I had one of these (a Hamilton Beach) and after getting the belt replaced twice, I junked it and got one with a direct-drive system. Also, I noticed that the power of these units is inferior to the direct-drive units, either because some power is lost in the transmission, or because the belt slips.
