regarding the spline lubing problem - you can do a couple of things.
1st - write the bmw news consumer editor (if you can't get the address
let me know and i'll send it to you). write bmw of north america
up in new jersey. they seem to be pretty responsive. does the service
manaul call for lubing those splines? i talked to my dealer about this on
my 78 RS and there was some confusion over which ones get it. i'm still
confused, but will probably lube them anyway.
my personal opinion of the r65 is not very good. it seems to have had
a lot of problems since its inception. i'd sell it and get a r80 - they seem 
to have a lot fewer problems.
