When you start the game, if your luck is 0 and it is a full moon, your luck is set to 1 and you get a message that you are "lucky tonight". (On a new moon you get a message to be careful; your luck isn't affected, but see below.) Luck affects several things during the game, which I won't discuss here. More luck is good for you. 2. On a full moon, an attacking wild dog hits with 3/4 strength. Also, at night on a full moon, there is a chance that throwing food at a wild dog will not tame it. (Dogs act wierd on full moons.) 3. On a new moon, hearing a cockatrice's hissing is guaranteed to turn you to stone unless you are carrying a dead lizzard. (There must be something to the old saying after all: "Dead lizzard at night, sailor's delight...." :-)) Note that a dead lizzard doesn't prevent a c from turning you to stone, it just prevents it from being a sure thing. -- Ted Hopp {seismo,umcp-cs}!nbs-amrf!hopp
