Admittedly it is unsound reasoning to suppose that a rooster is laying an egg, but the question does not say "Can a rooster lay eggs, and if so...", it says "If a rooster...". Thus we are already informed that the rooster has layed the egg! It is a forgone conclusion! And negations of that fact render the whole question, including the answer, useless.
