The other day I mentioned the "288" joke(?) to a friend and explained that it has never made any sense whatsoever to me. She explained that there used to be a Federal law against certain kinds of sexual behavior, and that the section prohibiting oral intercourse was (you guessed it) 288-A...... What this has to do with jail, I don't know (I though those people did it... er, in another way...?) but anyway.......... Oh, a joke? Heard this one yesterday: The atheist died, and much to his surprise discovered himself standing outside the Pearly Gates. He walked up to St. Peter and exclaimed "There must be a mistake, I never believed in any of this!" St. Peter smiled and said "Sometimes I don't either. But, no matter, you lived a good life and always followed you values, so you get to enter Heaven." Still surprised, but very happy, our hero enters and soon has esconced himself in a comfortable abode. One day, while out for a walk, he notices a wall in the distance and decides to investigate. It turns out to be about twenty feet high, so he goes to get a ladder. On his way back to the wall, St. Peter happens by and asks where he is headed with the ladder and so he explains about the wall. St. Peter is very distraught and says "No, no, please don't! That wall is there for a very good reason! You mustn't look over it!" "Why? What's on the other side?" inquires the atheist. St. Peter says: "The Christians. They think they're the only ones here."
