Since there was no year #0, the first day of the 21'st century will be Jan 1, 2001. Look at it another way: Jan 1, 1 was the first day on the current calendar and Dec 31, 100 was the last day of the first 100 years. Thus, Dec 31, 2000 will be the last day of the first 2000 years.
