I don't know haow reliable your source usually is, but that one has been 
around a long time.  I first heard it 6-8 years ago, but as reported by
a bricklayer lowering extra bricks from a construction site.

You could probably make the same joke with:

a rooflayer
a signpainter

how about a shuttle inspector??
