Message-ID: <2239@phri.UUCP> Date: Wed, 19-Feb-86 20:09:31 EST Article-I.D.: phri.2239 Posted: Wed Feb 19 20:09:31 1986 Date-Received: Fri, 21-Feb-86 05:37:38 EST Reply-To: roy@phri.UUCP (Roy Smith) Organization: Public Health Research Inst. (NY, NY) Lines: 23 Is there any reason why an ethernet (thin or thick) cable can't be branched? All the diagrams I see only show linear layouts with taps off the main line. Will the following work? We plan on some extra runs that don't have anything on them (yet); thus the branch with just a terminator. Assuming these branches are legal at all, should the ends have just dust caps instead of terminators? *=======T========T===========T============X======X====* | | | # # 3/50--+ * +---3/50 etc # | 3/50---+ # +---3/50 +---3/50 3/180 | | * * Key: * 50-Ohm terminator + BNC-tee connector = Thick cable | Thin cable X Ethernet tranceiver T N-tee connector with BNC adapter -- Roy Smith, {allegra, philabs}!phri!roy System Administrator, Public Health Research Institute 455 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016
