After all, if we ought not to do so, then the fact that America had (and still has) a long series of civil rights violations would have precluded us from claiming that Hitler was wrong. The fact that I am not perfect does not have anything to do with the imperfections of others (of course, the fact that I wish to get along with others will sway my desire to indict them--however, this does not mean they are correct in what they do).
