It appears the resistor myth is exploded (but not the ST). Of course there are two reasons why all of you 1 Meggers should not throw your resistors away yet: 1. My machine might explode tomorrow or next month or in July. 2. I may have lucked out and used DRAMs of somewhat different character than those used by the one other person reporting memory failure. In any case we now have 1 failure and 1 successful ROMing without resistors. Anyone else care to try? With regard to 1. if something happens to the memory in the near future (say a couple of months) I will broadcast that info immediately. With regard to 2. I used bottom of the line Hitachis.
