Since my earlier posting regarding HFS & MacWorks XL, I received a letter from Larry Rosenstein at Apple (thanks Larry!) regarding some questions I had mailed him earlier about a possible new MacWorks. Here is part of his message (I hope you don't mind, Larry): >As for MacWorks, I know that someone here is looking at a serious problem >involving trashed hard disks, to try to see if the bug can be fixed or if >we can find a way to recover the disks. I don't know if there are plans >for HFS or 128K ROM support. >I hope this helps. >Larry Rosenstein While this still doesn't answer the question of a new HFS-compatible MacWorks, it gives me good reason to hope that there will be one. I don't know if the hard disk problem that Larry refers to involves the current MacWorks (3.0)--earlier versions had a similar bug. Anyway, not two days after receiving the letter, my hard disk went bye-bye. (I couldn't even find a directory anywhere). So, time to reformat.... (thank goodness I had *just* finished backing it up an hour before this happened. Whew!). I don't know if the problem I experienced is related to MacWorks, but let this be a warning to X/Lisa owners out there. And, to Apple, if this is in fact a bug, PLEASE FIX IT SOON! (And while you're at it, why not give us 128K ROM/HFS support...?) Robert J. Hammen U. of Wisc. CS Dept. U. of Wisc. Plasma Physics Dept. Manta Software Corp.
