One is programs that will index text files created via other means. Probably the best of these is ZyINDEX (ZyLAB Corp, Chicago, 312-642-2201) This package comes in three versions, $145 - $695, supporting 500, 5000, 15000 files respectively. - this is a very powerful package (fast, too). Another category is text data managers, complete (with editor, etc). A de- cent one (according to reviews; have not actually tried it) is askSam (Seaside Software, Corpus Christi, 512-991-2019, $150) askSam will import text from other sources. A record, however, is restricted to apx. 1600 characters. - you can also use Framework - if you can stand the overhead, the lack of ran- dom indexing, and the purchase cost. greg pavlov, fstrf, amherst, ny harvard!talcott!wjh12!hscfvax!pavlov
