PC-SIG offers a public domain text database called 3x5 (that's "3 by 5").
Essentially you to enter text in free form (i.e. as a 3x5 index card) and then
performs searches on combinations of ASCII strings using a nifty signature
analysis algorithm.  Fields are not declared as search keys at any time.
You'll have to determine whether or not this type of dbase is appropriate
for your needs.
