I agree that you could not characterize Dark Shadows as SF. However they did dabble in SF-like material occasionally. For example, the last season focused on the happenings in a "parallel" universe, with the same cast of characters with slight changes. This idea was undoubtedly taken from any number of SF stories with that same idea.
