(NY, NY) Lines: 19 One of the Major Banks here in NYC had a central machine at the heart of their EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) Network. Seems one of the drives (they had two machines, each doing a hot-backup of the other) went down. Then one of the night operators got into a fight with the other ("Your momma!", "Sez..you", "Oh yeah?", etc), and it turned into a shoving match. One shove ended up against the RP06. Average latency of a transaction on the system was < 1 minute. They spent three days recovering the 18 million dollars in transactions tha were on the disk. And the Cost of Funds at the time were *VERY* high! -- ------ ross m. greenberg ihnp4!allegra!phri!sysdes!greenber [phri rarely makes a guest-account user a spokesperson. Especially not me.]
