Dear netlanders, Permit to herald my first posting thus unto this media of information networks. 1) I have read with great interest ( initially at least ) the "beach incident" which we all know very well.. I believe we have reached the top of the S learning curve and further rhetoric about the topic would be insufferable. 2) I read with great interest about the stupid programmers university students are and about other examples of their stupidity and immaturity. I shall refrain from commenting about this as I am one of them, but it appears we cannot fool everybody all of the time. However, this topic has also been belaboured by now and I doubt further sticks and stones would improve matters. Is'nt it time we moved to better topics; so that I can vicariously feed on the info as before.(?). This net is read by a large number of netlanders who are not Americans or who are still puzzled by its mannerisms. I would love an enlightening discussion on the following topic. _____________________________________________________ Question: Considering the high rate of divorce at present compared to the rest of the world, is it true that Americans expect more from marriage than before or less ? Does high technology and economic security detract from family ties ? Or has the onset of emotional maturity been hastened in most cases,in that, what was once romance is dead.? Possible answers: Yes and No, but I am sure we are interested in the ones which are in betwixt of these. Looking forward to some entertaining dialogue on these values, their development and attrition. Thank you. Vijay K Madisetti ( vijaykm@jason.berkeley.edu ) UC Berkeley,EECS.
