I'd be surprised if this was true any more.  Most of my (admittedly few,
as I am in the death throes of a thesis) recent encounters have been
when the woman asked me out, and I am delighted whenever it happens.
In fact, the only difficulty I have is thinking of a good way to refuse
(not that I've ever wanted to, except when forced to because of prior
commitments) -- having half a lifetime of experience at receiving
unpleasant refusals has left a bad taste in my mouth for it.
