The original title of this discussion came from the fact that someone once
wrote about depression as "a Black Dog" that followed him. (Unfortunately
I forgot who the person was who wrote that.)

Recently I was watching "The Hotel New Hampshire", and noticed that Irving
uses a big black dog, named "Sorrow", to symbolize, well, sorrow.  It made
me remember this discussion, and that made me wonder if he had the
original quote about the black dog in mind when he did that?
