Don't get fooled by nomenclature. The catdvi program that Imagen distributes converts cat files to DVI version 1. That was the format produced by the ancient TeX 78. The current TeX, TeX 82 produces DVI version 2 files. These two formats are COMPLETELY INCOMPATIBLE! The dviimp program that Imagen distributes with its 4.2 software also only understands DVI version 1. Now don't get Imagen's dviimp confused with the dviimp on the TeX distribution tape, which (to my knowledge) only understands DVI version 2!
