One of the first operational MMDBS prototypes is implemented in the OBE (Office-By-Example) system, an integrated office-environment system developed at IBM Watson Research Center. The core of OBE is a complete relational MMDBS, which exploits the memory residence assumption in its approach to database physical design, query processing algorithms, and query optimization. In this talk, we will describe a benchmark of the OBE MMDBS. Then, using OBE as a case study, we will propose new perfor- mance metrics and analyze design tradeoffs for future main memory database systems. Thursday, March 6, 1986 3:30 P.M.
