What was decided by our group was: A safety pilot is a cremmember required by the regulations. and hence when you are acting as safety pilot you log PIC time. You are hence not a passenger, you are not second in command, flying under the hood requires two pilots in command. How you maintain your log book is a matter of taste. All that really matters is that when you start filling out the application with all the little boxes for your check ride that you can easily provide the times in the breakdowns that the from requires. -Ron
