You might try the "Spider Scott" series by Kenneth Royce. Spider is
an ex-cat burglar living in London. He gets roped into doing some jobs
much the same as Block's character. I'm not sure if I can remember all
the books off the top of my head, but I know they include:

The XYY Man
The Miniatures Frame
The Masterpiece Affair
Trap Spider
The Crypto Man
