As I recall, Freddie was a part-time detective, sometime politician/baseball manager/spy, dealt with Martians, and was the deadly enemy of a gang of rats. If this blur of images reminds anyone of the author's name (a woman, as I recall, who wrote in the late 50's-early 60's), I'd like to hear about it!
