I have sent a fortran-77 subroutine to the mod.sources moderator which
draws letters and symbols using the Hershey Fonts.  This subroutine is
one which we have used for some time here at UCSD.  It assumes that you
are on a computer which uses 32 bit integers, but otherwise seems to be
reasonably portable.  (It can be converted to other data storage
formats with a bit of work).

I'm in the process of adapting it to 'C'; I'll look into distributing
it when that's done.
