[entire previous article deleted in interest of brevity] Thanks for the Kermit joke, Shelli, it was good and it reminded me of this one: One day Roy Rogers went out to hunt down a wildcat that had been killing calves on several of the nearby ranches. He rode to the site of the latest calf-killing and started to track the big cat. Soon the tracks led into the mountains and over some rocky terrain, so Roy had to dismount and continue on foot. After a couple of hours of tracking, Roy realized that it had been a big mistake to wear his brand new boots, since they were really hurting his feet. He sat down on a rock to take them off, but before he could, the wildcat he had been tracking jumped him from behind. Roy was badly bitten and clawed, but managed to escape when the wildcat smelled the new leather of his boots and started to claw and chew on them. Roy pulled his feet out and carefully and slowly crawled away. He had to leave his rifle though because it was under the cat. Roy then walked back to his horse and rode back to the ranch. When Dale saw how badly he was hurt, she immediately helped Roy down off Trigger, into the house, into bed, and then she sent Pat Brady off the get the doctor. Roy was barely able to tell Dale what had happened before he lost consciousness. The doctor came and treated Roy's wounds, and Roy continued to sleep for four days. Suddenly Roy Rogers woke, climbed out of bed, dressed, got another rifle out of the rack, staggered out of the house, saddled Trigger, and rode off without a word to anyone, but with a look of determination on his face. He was gone for several days. Dale Evans and Pat Brady had gone out searching, but couldn't find him. Then one evening just at sunset, Roy came slowly riding back in. There was a dead wildcat tied across Trigger's back, and a pair of mangled boots were swinging from the saddle horn. Dale and Pat ran out to see if he was ok. As soon as Roy dismounted, Pat said, "Pardon me, Roy, is that the cat that chewed your new boots??" "The moving hand writes ..." Don
