A Troy ounce weighs 31.103g while a avoirdupois ounce weighs 28.349g. A Troy pound consists of 12 ounces and a Avoirdupois pound consists of 16 ounces. Taking all of this weighty information into account leads me to believe that a Troy ounce is heavier than a Avoirdupois ounce and not the other way around as Mr. Kajihara states. The preceding weighty information was compiled by Hal J. Painkin who is the local expert on trivia. -- Michael Brochstein AT&T Information Systems, Middletown, NJ ihnp4!mtx5d!mtx5c!mab (201) 957-1764
