Until about ten years ago, it was mostly white with a substantial Latino community. It now has a large Asian community, mostly Chinese. Many business signs are in Chinese, which seems to bother long-time residents.] The Monterey Park city council just passed a law requiring all businesses to have a sign posted stating the type of the business in the English language. As it turns out, only six percent of the businesses in the city don't already do this.
