I asked Apple Tech Support about REdit, ResEdit, and HFS compatibility,
and mentioned ResEdit's files-inside-folders bug.  The following is
their response:

Ephraim,
        We are aware of the fact that REdit is not HFS compatible.  We have no 
current plans to rev it.  People can use ResEdit -- it's not as friendly, but 
is more powerful (though also more dangerous).
        Thanks for the bug report, I've passed it on to the person who is 
maintaining ResEdit.
