Well, I haven't exactly put a matrix together, but I have experimented.  
Using 'macput -u' on a 780 running bsd 4.2 worked and works with Macterm 1.1,
but failed to work under the Macterm 1.1 protocol in Macterm 2.0. I just
one session using a few different net.sources.mac files with mail headers
stripped.
