Lines: 21 Hi out there.. I too have a Compaq DeskPro and am using the NEC V30 processor in lieu of the stock 8086. I ran a few before and after benchmarks with the following results: Average improvements of 8 to 12% in most programs that are uP intensive (math functions, sorting, recalcs, the like), but a whopping 30 to 50% in I/O intensive functions (screen dumps, screen updates, e.g., updates to the screen within an editor, paging through a document, but not buss limited DMA transfers). Anyway, I like the the NEC device and haven't seen any incompatibilities with any of my software (includeing Ashton-Tate's Framework II with the superlok copy protection). Good Luck... -- Tim Margeson (206)253-5240 tektronix!tekigm2!timothym @@ 'Who said that?' PO Box 3500 d/s C1-465 Vancouver, WA. 98665
