I am currently programing on a ibmpc with no environment ie. I've got jack **** for an editor. My boss does not understand the importance of a good one. So I must look in the public domain, which is OK but there seems to be a proliferation of word proccessors not programming editors with things like paren bouncing, auto indent etc.... I am very familiar with vi and use it to judge all others. I will be proging in Lisp, fortran and pascal. There, those are my biases. 1. I know there is a PC/VI available, I have their address. But WILL IT BE JUST TO SLOW on our pc with two floppies and no hope of a hard disk. Also Ive heard something about a FANSI?? driver. Do I need it, it would up the price to 200.00 for vi on the pc. 2. What is EMACS or MIcroEMACS etc... I have gleened that it is an editor. Better than vi? Is there PD code that will run on the pc above. Can I get executibles we have no compiler except fortran (IBM) and pascal. I do not wish to port, no time. 3. I might have to build an EXPERT system for our project. What lisps exist for the pc, can I get binaries? I know of XLISP, is it suitable for said system? 4. Which of the editors would be better for #3? Any answers even yes/no answers would be greatly appreciated. Your discretion as to posting or mailing. Use good judgement. Thanks dave !uwvax!geowhiz!schuh
