You can control the tuning and volume on a per-sound and per-beat basis, and it has a cartridge port that gives you a total of 15 sounds at a time. It has 'improv', MIDI, and various other features that look very nice. It seems like a great machine for $600 (discount), with the cartridges going for $100 or so. However, I just talked to a music store that said the Tom was being discontinued. He also said Linn drum was (temporarily?) shutting down. What's the story here? Does anyone know any details about this? I know the sampling machines are taking over the world, but... Does anyone know of a good *tunable* drum machine for under $1000? The Tom sounds pretty decent, and I haven't seen anything even close to it in price/performance, so I'm somewhat shocked that it might be discontinued. Here's hoping someone can provide some info. ...Tim Thompson...AT&T Bell Labs/Holmdel/NJ...ihnp4!twitch!tjt...
