The "Thanks in advance (TIA)" tag doesn't bother me at all.  What
does bother me more is the thought of all manner of time and money
being expended for a mere thank-you note.  To me, saying "thanks in
advance" is also an expression of how appreciative you would be were
this to be done; if the person can't or won't fulfill your request,
fine, no harm done.
