Recently read something like the following:

A great disservice is done to marriage by the current popular psychological
notion that relationships are supposed to be fulfilling.  This
institutionalization of self-centredness has contributed greatly to the
breakup of many families.  ... only by identifying love with the idea of
performing service to the family  ... just because I perform some work
(i.e., earn money) that does not mean that I get out of other jobs ...
love does not take holidays ...
