I read an article somewhere that stated a very high percentage of all songs written were about *LOVE*. ( I'm sorry to say I can't provide a reference since I don't remember where I read the article. ) I decided to do some rigorous, unbiased, scientific research on this topic. I went home and looked at the music on top of my piano. I can state with absolute certainty that ( at least in the music I enjoy ) this must be true. Contenders in the "Favorite Love Song" catagory are: 1) In a Sentimental Mood (1935) Words and music by Duke Ellington, Irving Mills and Manny Kurtz 2) As Time Goes By (1931) Words and music by Herman Huppfeld 3) Autumn Leaves (1947) Music by Joseph Kosma, Lyrics by Johnny Mercer There are of course many others but the winner is ( the envelope please )... Misty (1954) Music by Erroll Garner, Lyrics by Johnny Burke Notice these are just the songs not a specific group, singer, or arrangement of them. I think that shows the strength of a song, that is a lot of people play it and you enjoy many variations of it. Anyway an easy bonus question. What movie do we all know and love "As Time Goes By" from? Please no flames or comments like "Go ahead punk, play Misty for me and make my day!" Jeeze did I really type that???
