He also said the poster may have meant "Is Laura REALLY > single?" My feeling is that she isn't in the purest sense of the word. Well, gol-llee, Uncle Griz, I reckon a feller can't rightly raise an ontological question, now, without folks gettin' all fired up about it, tryin' to incite gossip, an' raise the spectre of McCarthyism all over again, now, and postin' it to the net, besides! But, seein' as how last time I asked the question, "is anybody *really* single," my mailbox got full up with major flames with folks thinkin' *I* wasn't single myself, an tellin' me to get the h*ll off net.singles if'n I had an SO an' kids an' all, which I didn't even have, you know, far be it from me to go an' name names in public the way you've gone an' done, or for me to otherwise go an' post a posting to "explain" when somebody goes and forgets his :-) an' you go an' say bad things about him in net.singles because you thinks he is for real. But some folks just can't appreciate that if'n folks use the "r" key instead of the "f" key to try to explain how not all postin's that don't have a :-) are always real serious an stuff, maybe it's because they've done already used up all their shootin' iron last time around, and don't want to get into another argument again! Reckon we'll just have to have a feud now, ol' Griz! Oh, an seein' as how you started this here feud by sayin' Ms. Laura had your "permission" to go an' assault folks, which some of us accidentally misfortunately knows she doesn't need permission for her to go an' do it, I give her hereby permission t'go an' do the same to you, on account of you went an a'called her "impure". Next thing I know, you'll be a'callin her a pitiable hoss, an any friend o'Bart Davis knows what *that*'ll do![1] An' I hope that's in language someone who can't even understand Domain Addressin' to send mail nowadays can sink his teeth into. > ... something about Perkin-Elmer though. Ring any bells?(8-). Ya'll have > a nice evening if ya can. Nawww... Griz, you know anytime a woman goes an says she really shouldn't be a-doin' something, you can bet a mess a' poke greens she'll just keep right on doin' it. What was that that ol' boy William Faulkner said? "Women don't have morals, they only borrow other folks's".[2] Oh, Griz, you know there oughta be a smiley face up there, but you know, I just can't find it on my keyboard this evening. Musta' left it with my list of card-carryin' Nominal Singles back at the office, or under my "Lifted Rots an' Tramps guidebook to meetin' a SO in net.singles". "Give not to dogs what is holy; and cast not your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn to attack you." --------- [1] Persons unfamiliar with Southern Literature should be aware that this is a reference to the short story "Bart Davis' Dance", in which a major feud erupts when one character calls another "hospitable". [2] Exceptionally enthusiastic feminists and other people who believe that I normally write this way, or otherwise think I agree with Mr. Faulkner, should be advised that frankly I have never been able to figure out what Faulkner was talking about when he said this. -- Ofc: jer@peora.UUCP Home: jer@jerpc.CCUR.UUCP CCUR DNS: peo S Mail: MS 795; CONCURRENT Comp.ter Corp.
