I got responses from Lumberhackers, lumberjacks, women who live/love with same and one "skinny Oriental kid who likes eating" (keep eating!). Most of the men writing or being mentioned are well in excess of 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. There is logic in that. If you are a big man, you need to stoke up, or as one woman put it "...how do you think he got to be six feet two?" I still think it is cute that Andy collects recipes. The reason this is novel to me (despite the fact that my dad was always the better cook - what Saurbraten!) is that I come from Macholand, Brooklyn. We lived in Bay Ridge which is wedged between a notorious Mafia neighborhood and a Latino neighborhood. None of my grade school or high school buddies would even *dream* of men in the kitchen! The Sicilian youths dreamed of beautiful cars and the Puerto Rican youths dreamed of beautiful women :-) None of these fine young men were into food.It was pizza everywhere."Hey, Tony, waddya want fuh dinnuh?" "Eh.....pizza.' (or "Quiero pizza") Many of these guys were married at a relatively early age and so were kept away from the kitchen. Perhaps it is the guys who wait who also cook. :-) Also, I suspect closet chemists like cooking (one guy I knew liked blowing up beans in the microwave). Some of you may have thought that I tease Andy horribly about cooking. HELL NO! I am so busy with school (and procrastinating by posting to the net) that I have no time to cook. I tease him horribly about other things :-) E ***** "Behold the fool saith, 'Put not all thine eggs in the one basket' - which is a manner of saying,'Scatter your money and your attention;' but the wise man saith,'Put all your eggs in the one basket and - WATCH THAT BASKET.'" -Pudd'nhead Wilson- -S.L.
