When I was a teenager in college, we could put up to a 12-character string on the bottom of the banner sheet of printouts. Since I was in the comp. center a lot playing, I came up with the handle MAD PROGRAMR because I was once compared to a mad scientist by a friend. I have not dropped it since simply because people remember me. When I am introduced to someone new on the project at Bell Labs, they say, "Curtis Jackson? [knowing smile] Oh, The MAD Programmer!"
