They contain gelatin, an animal product. Also, most soaps are made by mixing animal fat with an alkali. A few soaps are made with vegetable fats. Check the label. If it says something like "sodium tallowate," pass it by. When you stop to think about it, petroleum is an animal product, but after all these millions of years, I suppose it doesn't matter much. :-)
