I've been using version 2.55, which was released last June, and yesterday
I received an advertising postcard that announced version 2.6.  The prices
on the card were the same as before:  $10 for the program and $75 for 
registration.

Considering the history of PC-WRITE, I doubt that any sudden changes like
copy protection and high prices would be forthcoming, and I'm sure they
would not be well received by myriad PC-WRITE fans.
