My own machine is a homebuilt Apple ][+ clone, and my disk subsystem uses 
Shugart SA400L drives, suitably modified, with a controller card that's a 
modified version of the standard Apple card.  I can provide schematics of
the controller card, together with modification instructions for the Shu-
gart drive.  (If your drive isn't an SA400L, then it'll probably be a bit
different, but the modification is all in the area of the stepper control
and so could be worked out.)
