Certain memory locations, for example the data and address registers and
user and supervisor stacks, do not get erased when the rest button is hit.
Therefore, one can reboot after a crash and those locations will have
precisely the numbers they contained at the point the crash occurred.  The
mushroom analyzer simply displays the contents of each of those locations.

You can get a mushroom analyzer by sending a blank floppy disk, SASE and
packing material to
