I have a couple of NCR5385 SCSI Protocol Controller ICs and thought I might build up my own interface (I know that its probably cheaper and certainly wiser to simply buy an existing or soon-to-be- available upgrade but this is partly for fun). 1. Does the Mac+ use this device or its lower cost sibling (5380)? 2. Where in the Mac's physical address space is it located? 3. Is is worth adding a DMA controller? Do the controllers on some of the currently available SCSI drives support transfers => 1MByte/s? 4. What is the easiest method at getting to the address, data and control buses on the motherboard? I do not wish to solder to it nor make any cuts on it. Should I just clip onto the 68000? The software side of the problem is where I am least knowledgeable. Does IM contain info regarding installation of drivers? Will I need HFS? Where can I get any example drivers? Any help will greatly be appreciated. Please mail any response. I'll post any received info if others seem to be interested. Thankyou in advance. -- Jeff Wallace {decvax, ucbvax}!trwrb!felix!jeff FileNet Corp. Costa Mesa, CA
