Why not gird the earth with a "super conducting" wire or with the present science funding crisis, perhaps just encircle the earth's "magnetic pole". Has anyone calculated the total energy in the magnetic field of the earth and does it flip as a sinesoid or a step function, and isn't the flip time closer to 26000 years???? I would imagine that most of energy is in the "vacuum" field component as opposed to any enhancement by the ferromagnetic core. Space plasma types and geo-magnetic buffs, what are the approximate values? I think I remember that "hundreds of gigawatts" of power are dissipated in the auroras during an active "solar magnetic storm" period, which can last several days. How much power is available in just the hour to hour | day to day field fluctuations. +---------------------------------------------------------+--------+ | Paul M.
